Hey everyone, Shanna here! 20 years ago if anyone would have told me I’d be running my own studio and capturing everlasting memories for families, I would have called you a liar! A big one at that. I remember growing up, I had a sister who was 4 years older than I was. She was the most artistic, talented, smart, beautiful sister who I was so very envious of. She would free-hand (draw or sketch) anything you could imagine. From cartoon characters to people to just anything and I couldn’t draw a stick person to save my life. Not only that, academically she was a genius in school. Me, not….so…..much! The only thing important to me growing up was sports as my struggle academically was overwhelming!
In my early 20’s, I took a job working for a P.I. law firm. I decided to walk away after almost 13 years after our son was born. That’s when I convinced my husband to let me order a camera in hopes to capture memories of our children while I was home.
I found a photographer locally (at that time) who offered basic photography classes so I decided to sign up. I think it was the second class that I realized this crazy passion for something I never, ever knew existed! Perhaps, maybe like my sister, just in a different form, I did have an artistic bone in my body. I proceeded to take a few courses and then signed on for a one-year internship before stepping out on my own.
These past five years that I have been on my own have had a whole mix of emotions from good, bad and the ugly. As anyone knows, owning a business is not easy! Building clientele isn’t always easy with a market that is very saturated with photographers! However, it’s been an incredible ride. I’m sitting here looking back on the past five years and I remember when I first started out thinking to myself, I wonder where this business will be in five years. And my heart is exploding as this year by far has been projected to double or even triple last year!
We have three children, our youngest being two. I made a promise to myself that I would not focus on paid advertising until all three are in school full-time. This means my amazing friends, family and clients have been referring the business to their friends and families too! And with tears in my eyes, I can’t thank you all enough!
I would like to end on this note. The business has taken a village! I have so many amazing friends and family that have invested their time and money making this possible. I have friends that let me have it when the having is needed. They push me beyond limits that I’m not comfortable with but.. it’s what I need! And that I thank you!
Shanna Lynn Photography is not just “a” business. This is my passion.
I’m going to sign off with a few throwbacks from 2013 and 2014 compared to a few images from 2018!
The first three images, 2014, 2013 and 2013. The next three images, 2018~.
